Host a biweekly banned book club.
Station Dossier
Host a biweekly online book club focused on banned and challenged books. Choose the books, lead the discussions, and create a digital space where people can engage with material that's being restricted or removed from schools and libraries.
You'll set the reading schedule, share a few discussion questions or prompts ahead of each meeting, and facilitate conversation during the session.
The group caps at 10 participants to keep the discussion manageable. If the group grows beyond what one person can handle, we'll recruit a co-facilitator.
Essential skills:
- Comfort in facilitating group conversations
- Willingness to read (or reread) each selected book before the session
- Ability to prepare a few discussion questions or prompts ahead of each meeting
NOT required:
- Formal teaching experience
- Literary analysis background
Operative must provide:
- An account with the digital platform that will host the club meetings
- Access to free digital copies of the books being discussed
- Promotion and participant recruitment for the club
MFU will provide:
- An interest form on the MFU website to help identify the best times for the meetings
- A scheduling app on the MFU website that allows people to sign up for the club
- A channel on the MFU Discord server that can be used for meetings and/or discussions between meetings
- Help locating free digital copies of selected books, if needed
- Promotion and participant recruitment for the club
