These guidelines apply to both educators and students in all discussion forums, whether they are in-person, via Zoom, or on social media.
1. Be Kind
We don’t platform hate, and you don’t get to “debate” someone’s right to exist here.
- No threats, harassment, slurs, hate speech, or incitement to violence.
- No content promoting fascism, white supremacy, or authoritarianism.
- No racism, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, or other forms of bigotry.
2. Participate in Good Faith
Bring curiosity and engage genuinely. If you mess up, own it. We care more about growth than perfection. If you’re willing to reflect and repair, we’ll meet you there.
- No trolling, sealioning, or derailing discussions.
- Ask real questions.
- Stay on topic.
- Debate ideas, not people.
- Disagree without dehumanizing.
3. Tell the Truth
If you’re making a claim, be prepared to back it up. Honest conversation depends on shared reality.
- No lies, disinformation, misinformation, misleading frames, unverified claims, or doctored images or videos.
- Cite your sources if asked.
4. Protect Our Community
MFU is not ideologically neutral. We are a progressive educational organization that stands with the silenced, the curious, and the furious. This space should amplify voices that have been silenced, erased, or attacked elsewhere.
- No playing devil’s advocate with people’s rights, identities, or lived experiences.
- No bigoted hypotheticals.
- No doxxing or sharing identifying information without explicit consent.
Use content warnings for discussions of violence, trauma, or graphic material. Please note that you may be interacting with minors in some discussions.
5. Follow Educator and Mod Directions
Educator and moderator decisions are final and prioritize community safety.
- No ban evasion, sockpuppeting, or trying to relitigate closed issues.
