Welcome to MFU's Covert Operations System

You've found the operational side of My Flying University. This is where educators, subject matter experts, and activists build the educational content that goes live on our public site. If you've ever wanted to teach something that's been banned or censored in public schools or universities, you're in the right place.

MFU is named after the original Flying Universities of Poland, where dissident educators ran a network of underground classes. This started in the late 19th century, when Poland was under Russian occupation. Those teachers and students risked imprisonment to keep knowledge alive.

Our name is an homage to that work, and a reminder that the impulse to restrict what people can learn is not new. Neither is the impulse to teach it anyway.

MFU is not, technically, an underground network. And nobody here is breaking laws or inciting violence. But the topics our volunteers work on do have a way of making certain people nervous, and education has been politicized so much that the Attorney General of Indiana has created a slam book for teachers. So, some of our volunteers prefer to remain anonymous. We figured, if the work already feels like something that has to be done in secrecy, we might as well build the infrastructure to match. The Covert Operations System tracks and supports volunteer work while protecting privacy.

We added a spy theme, a points economy, some cool rewards, and a layer of classified lore. Because the dystopia has already arrived, and we need your help.

Station Assignments

These are more traditional ongoing volunteer roles, like facilitating classes or providing tech support. You can apply for these positions, and MFU's Executive Director will set up a Zoom call with you to make sure you're not a bot and that the position is a good fit.

This is your command center. You can check in on your current mission, request backup, or submit your finished work. If points and badges and spy talk make you throw up in your mouth a little bit, this is the place where you can keep your focus on the work you're doing.

Completing missions and accumulating station assignment hours both earn you points that you can spend here on various forms of loot. Yes, we are willing to bribe you to make the world smarter. We hope it's working?

Leaderboard

Education and resistance work aren't competitions. All of our volunteers are winners, because they're here, doing something to help stop our authoritarian slide. But if you're the type of person who finds motivation in battling for that top spot, here you go.

Operatives who want to collaborate can form or join a network. Some missions are designed specifically for group work, and networks can claim them together.
