Station Dossier

Station Brief

Run a biweekly action team focused on creating and distributing deradicalization resources, counter-narrative content, and empathy-first outreach materials. The team works in traditionally neutral-to-conservative spaces on social media, providing information that might resonate with right-leaning people who are having doubts, especially those looking for an exit from the MAGA movement but fearing the snap-back they might get from the left for having supported it in the first place.

One of the explicit goals of this team is to provide offramps. The narrative the team helps build is not "I should have known better" but something closer to "when I did my own research and discovered what this movement actually supported, I courageously broke away and supported others who are doing the same." The team can draw on former MAGA influencers, politicians, and public figures who have already broken with the movement to help shape content that makes it possible for people to change their minds without feeling humiliated.

The team also shares resources and information in left-leaning spaces so that others can pass them along.

The group meets every other week to coordinate, divide up content creation, review what has been distributed, and plan the next round. Off-weeks are for creating and distributing the materials.

The group caps at 10 participants.

Protocols & Operational Templates

You are welcome to use these sources to help you get started:

  • The Institute for Strategic Dialogue's Counter-Narrative Handbook and Counter-Narrative Toolkit are a free beginner's guide and companion toolset for creating, launching, and evaluating counter-narrative campaigns. They cover audience targeting, messenger credibility, content creation, and distribution.
  • Leaving MAGA is a nonprofit founded by former MAGA activist Rich Logis. The organization provides a community for people who have left the movement, hosts weekly support groups, and publishes first-person testimonials. Their free outreach guide offers strategies for reaching loved ones still in the movement.
  • Fearless: How to Leave MAGA collects tips, support resources, and links for people looking for a way out of the MAGA community, including media literacy resources for breaking out of right-wing information bubbles.
  • The Faithful Fight from Protect Democracy is a series of toolkits designed to help religious communities counter authoritarianism. Includes toolkits on organizing, bridgebuilding across difference, mutual aid, and protecting civil liberties.
  • Smart Politics teaches progressive advocates how to communicate persuasively with people who disagree with them. Their Trust Pyramid framework focuses on building emotional safety before introducing new ideas, which is directly applicable to deradicalization outreach.
  • Braver Angels runs workshops and provides frameworks for communicating across political divides. Their approach to depolarization can inform the tone and strategy of outreach materials. MFU can provide a paid account if needed.
  • The Conservative Archetypes guide breaks down four common conservative identity types (the Fox News Zealot, the Republican Party Die Hard, the Irony-Poisoned Cynic, and the God-and-Country Crusader), mapping the emotional drivers, contradictions, and communication strategies for each. Useful for understanding who you are actually talking to and tailoring outreach accordingly.
