What has happened in the last week that shows that humanity may not be doomed?

Most of the news we consume is of the "doom and gloom" variety. It can be hard to find signs of progress. Providing this collection of links will allow MFU to add to its Good News page.

This package is for anyone who is feeling burned out by the constant stream of bad news.

You will find 5 news articles that fall into one or more of these categories:

• Holding the Line: stories of ordinary people standing firm against fascism, hatred, and harm to the most vulnerable
• Extra Credit: stories about young change-makers who are refusing to wait their turn
• Across the Aisle: stories about people with different backgrounds and beliefs coming together to do good
• The Wheels of Progress: stories about advances in science and medicine, driven by people who never stop asking questions
• The Ripple Effect: stories about small actions and local efforts that have sparked wider change
• Statistically Encouraging: stories about data and analyses that make a good case for optimism

Notes:

• You don't need to have one article per category, just five articles that fit in there somewhere.
• If you find a really good article that doesn't fit into one of the categories, feel free to include it in addition to your five articles.
• Make sure your news items aren't just bad news wrapped in a positive spin.
• Your news stories should come from credible sources.
• The news stories can't be behind a paywall.
