Create a 24-hour YouTube Playlist of comfort content for MFU’s Sanctuary page to help combat political burnout.
Mission Dossier
What kinds of content would help people detox from the news and relax?
When people have to engage with disturbing content, whether that's simply reading the news, creating educational content on tough issues, or doing other resistance work, it can take a real toll on their mental health.
The Sanctuary is a page on the MFU website that is designed to soothe fried nervous systems. Research shows that people experiencing anxiety or depression often have decision paralysis, so we only show one piece of comforting content at a time. A 24-hour playlist (hopefully) provides enough content to get everyone through the week.
This package is for anyone who is feeling burned out.
Pick a comfort content theme (examples: cooking, animals, art, oddly satisfying, stand-up comedy, nature, crafts, meditation, music, ASMR) and build a YouTube playlist of at least 24 hours of content in that category.
- The playlist should be publicly accessible without a paid YouTube account.
- All videos should be free to watch, not gated behind YouTube Premium or other subscriptions.
The playlist will be featured on MFU's Sanctuary page on a rotating basis.
Operative must provide:
- A YouTube account to create and save the playlist
Essential skills:
- Familiarity with creating YouTube playlists
To get you started, here are some examples of well-curated comfort-content playlists across various themes. The first is a compilation pulling videos from multiple channels, which is closest to what you'll be doing. The rest are single-channel playlists, but they have the vibes that would work well for MFU's Sanctuary.
- Satisfying Art Glass Blowing Videos: a multi-channel compilation of glass artists shaping molten glass into intricate sculptures. This is the closest model for your mission, since the curator pulled videos from different creators into one cohesive playlist.
- (No Music) Original Satisfying Videos Wholly Produced by Oddly Satisfying: pure visual satisfaction with no soundtrack. Cutting, pressing, squishing, peeling. Just the sounds of the materials themselves.
- HDR by Rambalac: silent, high-definition walks through cities and landscapes. No narration, no music. Just being somewhere else for a while.
- Making Traditional Chinese Things: quiet, beautifully filmed videos of traditional Chinese craftsmanship: woodworking, dyeing, weaving, cooking.
- Cute Animals & Baby Animals & Relaxing Music & Animals 4K: exactly what it says. Baby animals in 4K with gentle background music.
- Satisfying Art Videos by Sarah Renae Clark: paint pouring, color mixing, and art process videos curated by an artist and content creator.
- Satisfying Art Videos by Doaa Moaz: another art-focused collection of mesmerizing painting and drawing process videos.
- Lofi Girl - lofi hip hop radio: the gold standard of "put this on and feel okay." Notice how the stream maintains a consistent mood without demanding attention.
- How to Create a YouTube Playlist (Google's official guide)
For general questions, you can message your handler through your dashboard, contact @Owlett on Discord, or email info@myflyinguniversity.org.
If you have an idea for a different approach to all or part of this mission, please feel free to reach out before you get started!
- Your playlist contains at least 24 hours of content
- The playlist is set to Public (not Unlisted or Private)
- All videos are watchable without a YouTube Premium subscription
- The playlist has a clear, descriptive title that matches its theme
- The playlist does not include any adult content
- You've watched or sampled enough of the content to confirm nothing is broken, deleted, or wildly off-theme
What to submit (from your MFU dashboard):
- The public URL of your completed playlist
- A note with your chosen theme (one or two words is fine) and a one-sentence description of the playlist for the Sanctuary page (example: "Two days of tiny Japanese food being made in tiny Japanese kitchens.")
There is no hard deadline for this mission, but you will need to provide a weekly status update via your MFU dashboard.
