MFU's Banned Book Club: Animal Farm
Banning a book doesn’t just remove the book from the shelves. It silences the author’s voice. And, in doing so, it often silences the viewpoints and cultures of already marginalized groups.
To confront this, My Flying University is launching a Banned Book Club for folks who would like to read and discuss commonly banned books.
We'll be meeting biweekly on Thursday evenings (6 pm EDT / 5 pm CDT) on Discord, and will be able to chat and share resources there in between meetings.
We’re kicking off the club with Animal Farm, a book that was banned in the Soviet Union for being too critical of the communist government and challenged in American classrooms for having too much pro-communist content. Same book. Opposite accusations.
